Glossary term
Subcutaneous
Into the layer of fat just under the skin, a common route for injecting peptides.
Why it matters
Most peptide research uses subcutaneous injection. The route affects how fast a peptide is absorbed and is often abbreviated "SC" or "subQ."
A subcutaneous injection places a substance into the fatty tissue beneath the skin, rather than into a muscle or a vein. It is the route most often used for peptide and GLP-1 research because absorption is steady and self-administration is practical.
